Put the phone on the table and talk.

Talkacross listens to both of you at once and splits the screen in two. Your half is in your language. Their half faces them, in theirs.

For iPhone. In beta on TestFlight now, App Store soon.

Two hands over a dark table, one iPhone between them: the near half of the screen in English, the far half flipped and in Spanish

No passing the phone back and forth.

Most translator apps make you take turns holding the phone. Talkacross lies flat between you. The far half flips to face the other person, in their language, buttons and all. Then you both just talk.

How it works

It works out who said what.

Auto is on from the start, so there is nothing to press. Every sentence is filed to the right side using three cues, even a mixed line like okay, gracias.

It hears

“Okay, gracias.”

It checks

LanguageEnglish and SpanishMixed, so this one can’t decide alone

It files it to your side

Okay, gracias.Okay, thank you.

Wrong side? Swipe the line across and it moves.

Both languages on every line

The translation sits on top and what was actually said sits underneath, in italics. You can see what the other person said, not just what the app thinks they said.

Words land as they are spoken

Lines fill in while people talk and settle a moment later, so a conversation keeps its pace instead of waiting on a button.

Turn it sideways

Flat on the table the screen splits top and bottom. In landscape both halves stand upright, side by side, with the flags and the mode in the strip between them.

iPhone Duo

Made for the fold.

Talkacross was designed around a screen shared by two people, which is exactly what iPhone Duo is. Open it on the table and the hinge becomes the line between you.

  • Standing as a tentEach person gets their own upright side of the screen.

Privacy

The conversation stays at the table.

Listening, transcribing, working out who is speaking, and translating all happen on your iPhone. No account, no recordings, nothing uploaded.
